As Crew Manager, you must confirm that all crew members can swim at least 50 metres in light clothing and hereby release the race organisers, their sponsors, agents, staff and officials from any claim for injury or loss though our participation in this competition. Land Based Tug of War
This is a land based tug of war - teams of 8 will battle against each other to prove their strength! or not!
This is one for anyone that really doesn't like getting wet - but is up for a bit of physical fun!
All age ranges welcome...
When you 'add to cart' please enter the number of people that you want to enter. Teams will be made up on the day.

Team Events

With the exception of the 'Children's '40' Dongola, all entrants for all other Team Events must be over 12 years old on the day of the even & each team must comprise of at least two adults.

Bath Race

Bath Race
2 household baths joined together down the long side (not the tap end) with 4 people (all over 12 with at least 2 adults) paddling it – 2 in each bath. Freeboard can be a problem!!
Prizes for best fancy dress.

Thames Dongola

Thames Dongola
6 people (2 of whom must be female) paddling in punts Steering is important. The tricky bit is turning clockwise round your own buoy at the end of the course before the dash back to the finishing line.

Childrens '40' Dongola

Childrens '40' Dongola
A brand new race for the Hurley Regatta.

This is a children's team race - 5 children per team.
You should enter a full team, although the regatta will provide a suitable steerer who will also help the children as much as is possible during the race. The total age of the children cannot exceed 40, with a minimum age of 5 and a maximum age of 14.

Please enter the name of each child paddler in the entry form as well as their age at the date of the regatta (19/8/17). If each child's age isn't entered as part of the booking process, then the regatta reserve the right to disqualify the team with no refund.

The 'Captain' you enter will be the person who the Regatta will consider responsible for the full team on the day. The 'Captain' won't actually race, but will be the go to person, should the regatta organisers need to communicate any messages about the race to the team.
All children should bring their own buoyancy aids.

Residents’ Dongola

Residents’ Dongola
This is for the residents of Hurley Parish only (may include two guests from outside the Parish).
6 people (2 of whom must be female) paddling in punts - as there is no rudder, steering is important. The tricky bit is turning clockwise round your own buoy at the end of the course before the dash back to the finishing line.

A tug of war on the water.
Two rafts attached by a long rope, once you've paddled past the centre point you win, or last to sink.

Raft Race (team of 4)

Raft Race (team of 4)
Raft built on dry land using limited equipment provided by regatta committee by 4 people in the lunch break. Carry the raft to the water and paddle it to the finish.

Some never make it to the water and of those that do several fall apart before the end. It’s all down to your engineering skills! Always oversubscribed and huge fun.

Junior Classes

In all Junior Races the qualifying age is under 12/under 15/under 17 on the day of the regatta (unless specified otherwise - ie. Little and Large races)
All junior competitiors must provide and wear lifejackets.
A maximum of 5 races, including coxing, can be entered.
Oars must be tied in for all dinghy races.

Little & Large Tandem Dinghy

Little & Large Tandem Dinghy
For little and large it's 2 participants - one under 12 and one over 25.

For tandem events it's usual to row side by side. Entry options Mum and son, Grandad and granddaughter, Uncle and Nephew etc etc. Whatever works for you, this race was originally aimed at Parent and child, however, as long as the ages are respected, it can be whichever you prefer.
Oars will be tied in.
The under 12 must provide and wear lifejackets.

A man (knight) paddles a canoe to the start line stake boat where his damsel is collected before he paddles to the finish line. One paddle in boat to be used by male.

The Open Novelty Canoe

The Open Novelty Canoe
A canoe or dinghy based event for two people - event varies from year to year. Exact details are not revealed until the regatta day. Previous events have included collecting barrels from the river, 'egg and spoon' and jumping through hoops.
